Detailed notes
    - Joanne Berghold's love affair with the West began in the faraway arena of Madison Square Garden watching professionals elevate ranch and cattle-drive chores to rodeo art. Now a part-time Montana resident, she has long been documenting its hometown rodeo circuit. Berghold's stirring photographs provide an unsentimental view of rodeo contestants and small-town and ranch residents enjoying the wild ride that is the rodeo experience. The rodeo parade in Livingston begins a weekend of excitment. Cowboys check their "war" gear in Augusta. Ennis stages a grand entry. In Lewistown, a saddle bronc rider readies to leave the chute. Clyde Park's team ropers, barrel racers in Roundup, bareback riders in Big Timber and Three Forks, bull riders in Wisall, hosing down most towns in a Montana summer: these are rodeo's enlivening elements. Montana Hometown Rodeo celebrates the western ranching spirit and documents its fading traditions.
